Weekly Meal Planner: Week 1

You may be here as you have recently read our Meal Planning Monday article. Planning meals for the week ahead will allow you to save time and work together as a family, as well as helping you to avoid take-out and unhealthy ready meals.

We realize how busy you are, so we have come up with a great weekly meal plan and have included links to recipes that we think you will love. All of the meals selected are easy to make and do not include ingredients that you need to search for in specialist stores. For Monday, we recommend that you use all of the leftovers that you have in your fridge from the weekend. As you get used to meal planning, you will become more aware of food waste and will begin to plan meals that will have leftovers for lunches or ‘leftover night’. We especially like our ‘Friday Fun’ fish tacos that will get the whole family involved in cooking.

This is an easy recipe for turkey tetrazzini. Cook time may vary depending upon how soupy or thick you prefer the sauce.

Saturday: Date Night Tuscan Steak Salad served with baked potatoes >

A steak dinner for two feels date-night special, but this meal couldn't be easier. One 8-ounce strip steak is just enough for two; if you care for different levels of doneness, cut the steak in half before grilling.

WILD CARD

We understand that, as much as you try to stick to the plan you made at the start of the week, there are evenings when you are just too tired to cook from scratch or end up getting home very late. In this instance, why not use a ‘Weekly Wild Card’ in which you get to stray off plan and eat whatever is most convenient. We often have mac and cheese as our ‘wild card’ as you can use up left o-vers from the fridge to jazz it up a little.

Mac ‘n’ Cheese Creativity

Here are some great mac and cheese topping ideas from one creative mom. Just make sure you only use one wild card each week and try not to get take out every time you use it!

If you prefer to have a paper copy of your weekly meal plan, take a look at these meal planning templates that you can print out and stick on your fridge, to keep you organized.

We hope you enjoy this week’s meal plan and would love to hear your feedback in the comments below.
