To Binge or Not to Binge...That is the Question

Binge watching television can be a fun, entertaining, and quality part of the television viewing experience. Sometimes you just can't wait a full week for the next dose of your favorite TV show. Yet the experience can also have its pros and cons depending on the show. Here, we have decided on three top picks worth checking out via binge watching and three selections which are better off avoided.

Binge-Watching Bonanza

Lost >

One of television's most acclaimed and definitive serialized stories, Lost was a special series to view weekly with the water-cooler discussion and analytical talk about each episode. Yet there was always a lot of waiting... and more waiting... between the episodes and seasons. This would make an excellent "binge" watch as you can marathon (or sprint!) through the full series of mysteries, action-packed adventure, and intrigue and view it as one big, fun-tastical movie event you'll still be aching to tell all your friends about.

The Wonder Years >

This classic television series from the late 80's to early 90's is newly available on DVD in a collector's edition set from Time Life, and is housed in a replica-style locker to remind one exactly why they fell in love with the family of Kevin Arnold and the nostalgia experience combined with deft storytelling so true to family life: life has many a moment of learning and growing, and over binge-watching The Wonder Years one might surprise themselves with a re-education on one's youth and growing up. It's a perfect TV creation: something that works just as well now (if not better) over the passage of time.

From Dusk Till Dawn >

From director Robert Rodriguez (Grindhouse, Sin City, Spy Kids - and yes, all three of those) comes a new television series created to expand on the universe explored in the pop-culture cult classic written by the Academy Award winning Quentin Tarantino, which is being expanded by Rodriguez: a experience built for the Austin, TX filmmaker's new El Rey network. It's got a lot of mystery, suspense, and ancient Mayan mythology about vampires to go around for all.

Skip It, Don't Binge It

Heroes >

While some viewers originally touted the program as being one of the best television experiences since Lost began, a lot of that kind of hype was built up while it was still early into its run. Spiraling somewhere quickly with bizarre writing, including twists that allowed for the characters who died to come back at any moment, the show slowly fizzled and lost a lot of its pop-cultural edge. (If only the character Hiro had a spin-off things could have been so much better).

New Girl >

While the series starring the adorably quirky and talented Zooey Deschanel is a good series in many respects (the characters and comedy is often worthy), this is one majorly inconsistent series. You do want to watch it, just in small doses. Some episodes are laugh-out-loud hilarious and others are so horrible you can't believe it 's the same show. Watch it with a slower pace so you can appreciate those special moments all the more (and tune out the bad episodes with greater ease).

The Apprentice >

Reality TV can have its up's and downs but what about the one where Donald Trump tells you if your fired... or hired? It's passably entertaining television in small doses but there would seem to be a certain lack of quality binge-worthiness here. After a while one will get sick of hearing the same tone of voice monotonously firing people over and over again while sitting in a high-perched chair with raised eyebrows.
