Easy Baking Recipes for Kids to Make

I remember one of the first things I ever learned to bake—brownies. They are my most favorite dessert in the world, plus they are an easy baking recipe for kids to make. Once I learned how to make them, my family requested that I make them all the time! And now as an adult, I find that brownies are very easy to throw together for an after-school treat or for a bake sale.

There are lots of recipe ideas that are easy for kids to help make. Sweets are a big one, from cookies to cupcakes to cakes and everything in between. But besides sweets, there are lots of savory dishes that are easy for kids to prepare, with a little help from you, or all on their own when they are old enough.

Here are a few easy baking recipes for your kids to make:

Easy Funfetti Cake Mix Cookies >

Have you ever tried making cookies from a cake mix box? It makes things super easy and super fun! It just takes a few extra ingredients and you’re from the bowl to eating cookies in no time. Thanks to The 36th Avenue for this great recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 box white cake mix
  • 1/3 cup oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 T sprinkles
  • 1 cup M&Ms

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350. Have your child dump the cake mix in a bowl, then add 1/3 cup oil and 2 eggs. Stir with a spoon until moist.
  2. Add sprinkles and mix. Next, have your child shape dough into balls, about 1 inch.
  3. Place them 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  4. With the bottom of a glass dipped in flour, have your child flatten cookies to about ¼ inch thick.
  5. Have your child gently press 3-4 M&Ms on top of each cookie. Bake for 7-8 minutes, remove from cookie sheet and put onto a plate; don’t overcook as they will get harder as they cool.

Easy Baking Cheesy Sausage, Egg and; Hash Brown Cups >

If your child needs to work on his or her egg cracking skills, this is a great recipe to practice! I found it over on Real House Moms and use it all the time. The great thing is, this recipe can be easily doubled and after you bake the extras, just let them cool, throw them in a gallon baggie and pop them in the freezer.

On busy mornings just grab a few and throw them in the microwave for 45 seconds to a minute and you’re ready to eat and run! Another great thing is that this recipe is gluten free (as long as your sausage doesn’t have any gluten in its flavorings), so even my gluten-free kids can eat them!

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups frozen hash browns
  • ½ onion, diced
  • ½ c cooked sausage, crumbled
  • ½ c cheddar, shredded
  • 12 eggs, beaten
  • 1-2 tsp salt
  • ½-1 tsp pepper

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 425 and prepare your muffin tins (either spray with cooking spray or add paper liners).
  2. Have your child place 2 tsp of hash browns into each muffin tin cup and spray generously with more cooking spray.
  3. Next place in oven for 10 minutes; remove and using a drinking cup that fits into the muffin cup, have your child press the hash browns down.
  4. They will flatten and spread up the sides. Place back in oven for another 10 minutes.
  5. Beat the 12 eggs in a mixing bowl until they turn fluffy.
  6. Add salt and pepper and whisk more. Remove has browns from oven and then have your child layer the following on top: onion, sausage and cheese.
  7. Finally, carefully pour egg on top. Place back in oven for 15 minutes or until set.
  8. Remove, turn off oven, let muffins cool and enjoy! Top with ketchup if desired.
