For audiophiles eager to pick up a pair of killer headphones, 2 names effortlessly come to mind: Bose and Beats. With so much to offer at such a range of prices, it’s understandable that audiophiles get confused. So, how does a person choose between Bose and Beats? How do you choose between 2 rival brands? Here is a closer look at a variety of factors that will determine whether Bose or Beats offers the better pair of headphones for you:
When it comes to style, there are usually only 2 options that really attract attention: Beats and non-Beats. For anyone who has been allured by the shine, form and the “b” of Beats, no other style will ever work or seem attractive. You won’t really get the shiny style of Beats in most other headphones. As such, when choosing between Bose and Beats, always pick the style which suits you. With Beats, you usually get one definitive style and if you love that, the next 3 steps really don’t apply. Considering its popularity and how recognizable it is, Beats takes home the style award.
Edge: Beats

The recent dispute between Apple and Bose was regarding patent infringement on noise cancellation technology. The fact is that when choosing between Bose and Beats, Bose has superior noise cancellation technology. Not only does it ensure you can’t hear the world around you, it ensures they can barely hear your music too.
Edge: Bose
When it comes to headphones, particularly those you wear during commutes, comfort is everything. Headphone lovers want a pair of headphones they can wear comfortably for long periods. As such, when it comes to Bose vs. Beats, you will usually find Bose outperforms Beats in the comfort department. Not only do the cups feel lighter, they are usually larger and cover your ears better.
Edge: Bose
Bose headphones have always provided rich, deep and clean bass, always living up to their promises and our expectations. Of course, Beats has touted impressive bass quality for quite some time and it hasn’t disappointed. However, when we compared the Beats Studio ($150-$300) to similarly priced Bose headphones, such as the QC15 ($269-$300), it’s evident that Beats cannot keep up. In fact, not even the $316 Beats Pro were able to reproduce such low bass.
The bass on Beats seem rather artificial towards the 20Hz end and, unfortunately, Beats couldn’t reproduce bass properly any lower than 20Hz. The Bose headphones were able to reproduce all the way down to 10Hz and with a distinct purity that isn’t available in Beats headphones. So, Bose takes the cake as far as the bass is concerned.
Edge: Bose
Considering a variety of factors, it’s pretty evident that Bose truly takes home the win. With superior noise cancellation, minimal sound leakage, superior bass reproduction and better comfort, all for relatively the same price, Bose truly dwarfs Beats. But then again, when it comes down to the real deal, some people will prefer Beats because, well, they are the highly marketed “Beats.”
