Starting at a very young age, kids today know their way around a computer. And if they don’t, they’re eager to learn.
When my younger brother and I were growing up, though we didn’t have the Internet at my house until I was in high school (and we still had a TV without a remote and no computer at all when I was very little—a scenario that most of our little ones would struggle to even imagine now!) I was always drawn to the glowing screen.
A vast array of web options
Today, free online web-based games cover diverse topics and they are available for all ages.
Whether your kids are into science experiments, you’re babysitting a reluctant reader, or you’re looking for a way to entertain your favorite junior sports fans on a rainy day, there’s a website out there that’s kid friendly and fun.

Best of all, the following sites are attentive to the needs of kids as well as parents, crafted by trusted educators and experts with online safety in mind.
Though it’s true that the Internet can be a scary place, it’s also filled with fun sites to explore that are educational and kid friendly.

They include everything from online games and videos to contests and even some items that can be printed out and enjoyed offline, too.

National Geographic Kids
Learn about animals, science, geography, and sports on National Geographic Kids. You’ll find great color photos, quizzes, fun facts and games.
Crayola’s website
Crayola’s website features free coloring pages for kids that are easy to print out. There are even more complicated designs for older kids, and adults, too!
I’m a strong advocate of lifelong coloring. It’s a great way to focus the mind for those who get bored doing deep breathing exercises, and it’s a great way for both kids and adults to express themselves creatively.
You’ll find images of popular Disney characters, animals, fantasy creatures, and detailed designs.
Fun Brain
Fun Brain features math and reading games for preschool kids through eighth graders.
Books and comics are available on the site as well, and a section called The Playground helps to get little ones familiar with using a keyboard and mouse.
Google’s LEGO Build
Google’s LEGO Build site allows kids to traverse the globe to explore the creations of others. Best of all, kids can build their very own masterpieces in a virtual LEGO world.
