3 Books Too Scary To Read On Halloween

Halloween, a time for ghosts, vampires and zombies (except zombies are so in nowadays that every day is zombie day); a time when we like to be scared and seek the thrill of fear. Or we can just read something that will chill us to the bone.

Cell >

There can’t be list of horror books without a Stephen King novel.
The action focuses on Clay, an artist from Maine (surprise!), who just got a very important job in Boston. Unfortunately as soon as he arrives to his new job, a pulse is sent to every cellphone in the world that turns the listener into what is essentially a zombie. The description of the first minute of the outbreak alone is worth buying the book. The rest of the story is just as good.
You don’t like zombies? Don’t worry, these are not your regular zombies. They have psychic powers! They get into your dreams and mess with your head.
Caution to the power reader… Pace yourself. Read this too fast and it’s guaranteed to give you nightmares.

Dominion >

Word of warning, this book is disturbing. You can’t read it and not be affected by the violence and the perversity present in the story, you will remember it long after you finish it.
You also can’t start to read it and not finish it because this will grab you right from the prologue.
The story focuses around Dion Senale a teenager that moves with his mom to Napa, California where he meets Penelope the girl of his dreams. Cue the ancient Greek mythology and the townsfolk who think the protagonist is the reincarnation of the Greek god Dionisius.

World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War >

World War Z is a fragmented collection of interviews with survivors of the zombie outbreak that changed the world forever.
It spans 15 years from the first cases in China, to the aftermath of the Great War when civilization is starting to rebuild itself even though they now know they will be dealing with the remaining zombies for a long time. What sets this apart from other zombie fictional works is that it tells the story from the perspective of the entire world. It goes from the smallest possible storyline (a pilot that crashes in the woods while delivering supplies to survivors) to the macro economic repercussions of the apocalypse with countries changing religions, borders, new countries and new political superpowers.

Some of the short tales will stay with you for a long time. From cannibalism in Canada to the battle of Yonkers where all the fancy armament of the modern world lost to the simplest of enemies and almost made the world lose hope. You will be fully immersed in this world in shambles.

These are our suggestions but if we missed your favorite scary book, be sure to tell us about it in the comments so other people can save those to their lists too. You can never have too many scary books.
